01 Leading the Pack in Japan’s Repowering Market

Since the introduction of Japan’s feed-in tariff (FIT) in 2012, the number of renewable energy power plants has soared. However, as time passes, many operators face declining generation efficiency due to aging solar panels and equipment.

GBP identified this looming challenge early and began strengthening its repowering operations in 2019. The company has secured production lines for older panel models and, as of July 2025, has completed over 230 MW in repowering work—renewing more than 300,000 legacy panels. Notably, GBP also landed a major 35 MW project in Aomori Prefecture.

Beyond Japan, GBP is already active in more than 10 countries—including Australia, Germany, and Switzerland—marking its transformation into a global renewables player.

02 A Flexible, All-Inclusive Repowering Strategy

What sets GBP apart in this space? President Yohei Tatsukawa cites several competitive advantages:

1. Technical competence & reliability — GBP’s engineers are highly skilled, enabling the company to maintain credibility and minimize risks of failure.

2. Strong financial standing — With a stable foundation, GBP reduces counterparty risk, building confidence among clients.

3. In-house components — GBP can supply panels, mounting structures, transformers, junction boxes, and more, allowing it to streamline procurement and quality control.

4. Service responsiveness — The company offers long-term warranties and pledges site dispatch within 72 hours if issues arise.

5. High client trust — Around 90% of its customers are major corporations, further validating its reputation.

03 GBP Direct - Our E-commerce Platform

Japan faces a growing problem: by around 2030, many solar panels will reach end-of-life simultaneously, posing challenges in disposal and recycling. GBP plans to build its own recycling facility to tackle this wave of waste.

In August 2025, GBP launched a repowering-specialty e-commerce platform called “GBP Direct”. The goal is to streamline ordering for customers and concentrate logistics in high-demand regions like the Kanto, Kansai, and Kyushu areas (which frequently sees feed-in curtailment). This network aims to cut delivery times and reduce costs.

We are honored by this recognition and will continue to strengthen our initiatives to evolve from “Japan’s GBP” to “Global GBP.”
